Travel Day 76 Ludington

After a couple days in Frankfort it was time to move south towards Ludington, MI. The weather was overcast with 10 knot winds out of the south with a chance of rain. We were running with Beachside as a few others stayed behind for another day.

The trip south of about 45 NM was uneventful and took about 6 hours. We had a great view of the sand dunes and the Big Sable Point Lighthouse. We entered the Ludington Harbor Channel passing the South Breakwater light into the protected channel turning to port into the Ludington Municipal Marina on the north side of the Harbor.

Ludington is a great little town with a large shopping district with several breweries dotting the area. We were able to explore the town on our bikes and we took a long bike ride to the Big Sable Point Lighthouse with Changing Latitudes and Beachside. We trekked up the winding staircase to the top where lighthouse gave us great panoramic views of the Michigan coastline. We rode through a large campground just south of the lighthouse which could be another adventure in the future if we decide to get an RV. While in Ludington we were able to go to the open air market and visit a Ludington Bay Brewery with Changing Latitudes and Gemini. And there was also live music in the center of town.

It was another great stop on Lake Michigan where we stayed two nights but it was off to the boat to plan our next run south.
