Travel Day 78 Grand Haven

After a night on the hook in White Lake we rose early for a short run to Grand Haven, MI. The trip would only be 28 NM which would take 3 hours.

Grand Haven is nicknamed Coast Guard City USA, he Coast Guard City program was established by the United States Congress in 1998 to recognize cities where military assets of the United States Coast Guard are located and which demonstrate support to Coast Guard personnel stationed there. The first city so designated was Grand Haven, Michigan. The city has great beaches and state parks that line the Lake and like the other harbors on the lake it has a great entry harbor with a large red lighthouse.

The weather was chilly but we were able to get out on our bikes and explore the town. There was a good shopping district in front of our slip with several breweries and restaurants. We were able to get to gether with several loopers that were staying in the harbor to include the Odd Side Ales and Grand Armory Brewing Company. There was a cool restaurant called the Copper Post that had an old school pub vibe.

Tom from Beachside and I took a long bike ride that took us through the south end of Grand Haven leading us back into the east side of town where we met Don from Gemini for a few cold beers at the Burzurk Brewing Company.

It was another great stop along Lake Michigan. I would love to revisit these harbors in the middle of the summer.
