Travel Day 22

As expected we woke up to high winds out of the north and showers expected but with a wind off the bow I was confident in a safe run so it was time to toss off the lines and head out  to the pump out dock then across the Hudson to fuel up at Panco Petroleum. While making the 3 mile crossing a strong storm rolled through with high winds, thunder and lightning forcing us to go south to avoid it. After about thirty minutes the storm blew past allowing us to head north to Panco. Entering the small and shallow fuel dock there was an old fire boat that serviced NYC and now was being restored as a possible museum.  There was a lot of river debris in the harbor and along the run north in the Hudson river as is usual in the spring.

Then came the US Military Academy or West Point. It was originally established as a fort overlooking the Hudson River. It was first occupied in 1778 by The Continental Army and is the oldest continuously Army post in the US.  The academy was established in 1802.

Heading north we passed numerous old river light houses decorated the river. As we headed west we turned west at the Rondout Creek Leading Light down a tight channel passing a few abandoned commercial vessels, The Ole Savannah Southern Table and Bar and we docked in front of the Hudson River Maritime Museum. It was closed when we got in but looked interesting. As we have become accustomed to we arrived early in the week and most of the restaurants were closed. We however were able to get a table with other Loopers, (Bama Breeze, Thistle, Runaway) and a few new ones. We were told if you order a drink you get a free appetizer so needless to say we had a lot of appetizers.

After a great night it was off to bed with expectations of another great day.
