After a noisy night on the wall in Sylvan Beach we woke up to the boat being covered with May Flies. we didn’t want to sweep them off because they would leave a mess on the boat so i hoped that while underway most would fly or fall off so we headed out to cross Oneida Lake. The crossing was about 20 miles there was a light fog and still some left over Canadian smoke. The water was calm with a slight breeze out of the west so our only obstacles were the hundreds of fishing boats lining the channel. We traveled at about 8 knots and occasionally I put the boat up on plane in a futile attempt to get the flies off the boat.

We had tentative reservations at the Winter Harbor Marina with a back up plan to stay on the Brewerton free wall. Upon arrival to Winter Harbor Marina we were assigned a layalong slip in the entrance to the haul out dock leaving minimal passage room for boats getting hauled out. The marina was right on the Oneida River with a big service operation. After checking in we browsed the swap table and were able to get a few maps and guides to the Trent Locks and the North Channel.

We were able to take the loaner car and we were able to buy a new fold up bike for Maria at Camping World and pick up a blower from home Depot to get all the May Flies off the boat.
Docktails were under the pavillion on site so I ordered a few pizzas and got a chance to exchange stories with other Loopers and wait to see if we were going to move on or get a slip for one more night.
Upon waking up the next morning we were informed that they did not have any space for us as the marina is a service marina and there were many boats that had prop damage from the erie Canal passage so it was time to press on.
