Travel Day 39

We decided for an early departure for our 50 mile run to Cornwall, Ontario. We had three locks to get through and expected some delays.

We traveled along the US and Canadian border as it narrowed near Chimney Point. The St. Lawrence River had a light current working with us and the weather was cloudy but no rain in site. The trip was so far uneventful as we winded through the country side. We passed a few cargo ships. We made it through the Iroquois Lock without incident. then headed to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Lock. There is a waiting area just west of the lock and the signs directed boaters to use the telephone located on the wall or call the lock on VHF 12. The telephone box did not have a phone but did have plenty of wasps. I radioed the lock and was informed that it would be about an hour for us to transit due to a commercial vessel heading west.

After finally heading through the lock it was off to Snell Lock the last of our American locks for our trip into Canada. The Snell Lock was ready when we got there so we made it through without incident. After leaving the lock we followed our Navionics course and mad a 180 degree turn then turned north towards Pollys Gut a small channel that would lead us around Cornwall Island to the Cornwall Municipal Marina. The current in the cut was about 5 knots against us. I had to maintain a 1800 rpm charge just to move at 3 knots. It took us 35 minutes to travel the 1 mile cut. Another couple miles we made it to the Marina and settled in. Mike and walked into the park adjacent to the marina to watch a little league baseball game. The girls wanted to go to a bakery so we googled one that was about 1.2 miles away so it was a speed walk to get there before it closed only to find out that they were closed for renovations. After a quick bite at Schnitzels we headed back to the boat for a cold drink and a movie.
