Travel Day 47

Again it was an early start to move forward on the Rideau towards Smiths Falls. We were joined by “No Rush” for the run through the beautiful lakes and river. Along the way we were also joined by all the kayakers from yesterday. They were allowed into the locks with us for a free ride due to the heights they would have had to portage their gear. During one lock through the kids all posed for me with the “Hear No, Speak No and See No Evil” display in appreciation for our boat name.

We arrived early at Smiths Falls but not early enough to get water hook up. We did however get at least a 30 amp hook-up. We were moored along the north wall in front of a nice park. Smiths Falls is a nice little town. It is a hub for the Le Boat rental company where you can rent house-boat styled vessels to run up and down the canal system.

We did some light provisioning and took a nice walk through the town. On day two we were joined by Beachside, Bone Voyage and TNT Kiss. It was time to shop for Maria’s new bike. Her bike was just not designed well enough for her to enjoy our bike rides so we went to Canadian Tire and purchased an electric bike.

We had a group dinner at the Vault and beat the rain back to the boat. Smiths Falls was a great stop with great friends but we finally had to say goodbye to our new friends Peter and Rachel who were incredibly generous and helpful.
