Travel Day 49 Whitefish Lake

We left early this morning on our way towards a possible anchorage in the Whitefish Lake area. there were alot of tight channels with rocky shores. We meandered through Clear Lake, Indian Lake and before entering Opinicon Lake we had to go through Chaffey’s Lock where we met a river cruise ship descending the lock. The boat had a bow that folded up to allow it to fit in the lock. Beachside had to squeeze by the ship and the lock wall with little room to spare. we slid through and joined Beachside in the lock. We traveled through Murphys Bay along tight channels that led us to Jones Falls Locks that consisted of a single lock followed by a triple lock dropping us into Whitefish Lake. Throughout the day we passed a few locks that had great old buildings that were very carefully maintained by the lock staff.

It was getting late in the day so we decided to go to South Whitefish anchorage which was in a nice cove with 12 feet of water with light winds and no current. After anchoring I got a chance to jump in the water and get another look at my props. The water was cold but it was quite warm out so it wasn’t that bad. Tom on Beachside dinghied over to take us to his boat for dinner and cards.

Overall it was a great day on the Rideau and a beautiful anchorage.
