Day Five On The Great Loop

We woke up early to head north to our next dockage at Bellhaven Marina. The wind was strong out of the north right off our bow so we had basically the same choppy run as yesterday. We entered the Goose Creek and made it to the Pamlico River which was super windy with 2 to 3 foot seas then turned up the Pungo River. The Pungo river averaged 12 foot depths with several anchorage opportunities. As we turned up the Pantego Creek the wind was off our beam stern and as we turned north into the Bellhaven Marina the wind was blocked by the adjoining condos which made docking into the narrow channel uneventful.

The Bellhaven Marina is small but had all the amenities we needed, laundry, showers, clean bathrooms and we were able to fuel at our lay along slip. After settling in we were able to use the marina’s golf cart to run to Food Lion and get needed supplies. Bellhaven is a very small town with small shops and a cool old school hardware store. There was only one restaurant open as we’ve discovered is common on our route. We had a great inexpensive lunch at El Mariachi about 3 blocks from the marina. We strolled down the river front street where there were great old victorian homes. We stayed one night with expectations of another windy day tomorrow.
