Travel Day 55 Rice Lake

Today was the day to run towards Peterborough to prepare for our adventure up the Peterborough Lift Lock. We left early (0600) with a big flotilla of boats to include Beachside, Coconuts, Brand New Day and a few locals. We made it into the 1st opening and headed through the tight channels and several locks including another double lock at 16/17.

It was getting late in the day so we decided we would try and anchor in Rice Lake Just east of White Island, We were slowly creeping towards our designated anchorage where the weeds were brushing the bottom of the boat giving unreliable depth images and the chart was showing us in 8 foot depths when I clipped something with my starboard prop. We decided to evacuate slowly from this anchorage but with the heavy wind and tons of weeds on the props it took some work to get back to the channel. I put the boat up on plane with without any vibration so we decided to keep charging. The anchorages on the map were not very good so we decided to run up the tight channel following a delivery captain that waked everything in site. The homeowners along the river were screaming at him but he did not let up. We slowed down as much as possible and blew our horn’s for the kids along the shore as we are representatives for the AGLCA and it is the right thing to do. Just before dark we made it to the Scott Mills Lock 19 and tied up for the night. I was able to get in the cold water and check the props and make sure all the weeds had fully cleared. There were a few small dings on the props but the boat ran well without vibration. It was a long day and my pillow couldn’t arrive soon enough.
