Day 8 Chesapeake City, VA

After a good nights sleep at Coinjock we headed towards Chesapeake City, VA joined by ” We Got This” crossing the North Landing River to the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal. It was a short day because we were a day early for check in and at Norfolk so we were hoping to find room at the Chesapeake City town dock. We needed a couple bridges opened for our uneventful transent north and west. We arrived at the Chesapeake city dock with plenty of room to lay up for the evening,. There was not power or water available but the docks were stable and free, “We Got This” moved on through the Great Bridge Lock.

There is a museum and park on site with history of the Battle of Great Bridge.

The Battle of Great Bridge on December 9, 1775, played a critical role in the Revolutionary War and the subsequent creation of our great nation. It was this Patriot victory that forced Lord Dunmore, British Royal Governor of Virginia, and his soldiers to evacuate and ultimately leave Virginia.

We walked about a mile to a Food Lion and got a well needed haircut. After cleaning up we walked up to Big Woody’s Bar and Grill and met Lew Hicks for a quick bite and what Maria described as one of the best she crab soups. After reminiscing with Lew telling old stories of our great adventures we returned to the dock where several sailboats had filled the dock to await the morning opening of the Great Bridge Lock. We met a couple from Salem, MA that were friends with my cousin Dicky and were using Mike’s mooring ball. Small world.
