Travel Day 33

Once being denied a slip for a second night at Winter harbor Marina we decided to move forward. Our friends on Runaway asked us to hang back and grab a free wall as they were getting prop work but we decided to move on. The fuel dock is self serve so we filled our tanks and pumped out the black water tanks. It was time to head towards the Oswego Canal that would take us to Lake Ontario.

The boat traffic was light as we headed west on the erie Canal which is part of the Oneida River until it splits and we head north on the Oswego River which is the Oswego Canal System. The locks on the Oswego Canal had dams next to them similar to the Erie Canal.

The weather was turning bad so we decided to lay up on the wall between Lock 2 and 3 in Fulton, NY. The area was a little sketchy and after hearing stories of people untying boats on the wall we made sure we tied the boat off with return lines to the boat. We walked down to the only restaurant that was open had a quick bite then returned to the boat to wait out a strong storm that ended up giving us a few big rainbows. It stormed all night and there were several sketchy people walking along the wall most of the night. Needles to say it was a sleepless night. I woke up to find that one of the solid citizens decided it was ok to throw a lit cigarette on my boat leaving a small black burn mark. I was able to buff it out but it could have been worse if it wasn’t raining most of the night. Lessoned learned next time we will think about moving further to nicer areas.
