Travel Day 35

Today we woke up to light fog and light winds out of the southwest so we decided it was a good day to move forward. We were joined by “Coconuts” in the last lock of the Oswego Canal. Our plan for the day was to reach Sackets Harbor’s Navy Point Marina and meet up with Don and Dusty on “Gemini and deliver their Amazon package.

We entered Lake Ontario and where greeted with mild seas and light fog that was tolerable for our crossing of about 40 miles which would take us about 6 hours. This was the deepest water we had seen so far with depths up to 440 feet. The seas increased to about 2-3 foot waves with about 15 knot winds that where slightly off the beam which gave us a rolly ride. Once we got into the Black River Bay the winds and seas calmed down making the last hour more comfortable.

We arrived at Navy Point to find out our slip was not available so we were given a spot on the end of the haul out ramp and dock. It was a less protected than the marina so we had to endure the local boat traffic wake’s. We met up with Gemini and delivered the package and gave the boat a well deserved bath to get the canal and lock grime off her hull.

We took a walk to the quaint downtown area of Sackets Harbor with “Gemini” and stopped at The Sackets Boathouse for dinner and cold drinks. There were several black Minks running around the rocks and docks in the bay. We thought they were rats at first. After filling our bellies it was off to the Tin Pan Galley restaurant on West Main St. where we sat outside where there was a great patio bar and we were entertained by a couple of older gentleman that were later became a trio who played great 70’s and 80’s rock music.

As the trend continued it was off to the boat to get some rest for hopes of another new adventure in the morning.
